Noel Gallagher: “Arcade Fire Need To Pry Themselves Out Of Their Own Asshole”

It’s been a while since a Gallagher brother has said anything outlandish, so elder sibling Noel has today made up for that misgiving by labelling Canadian indie superstars Arcade Fire as “shit disco”, saying the band “need to pry themselves out of their own asshole.”

The ex-Oasis frontman has taken offense to the Montreal outfit’s latest offering, Reflektor, despite having never heard it, telling Rolling Stone:

“Anybody that comes back with a double album, to me, needs to pry themselves out of their own asshole. This is not the Seventies, okay? Go and ask Billy Corgan about a double album. Who has the fucking time, in 2013, to sit through 45 minutes of a single album? How arrogant are these people to think that you’ve got an hour and a half to listen to a fucking record?”

He went on to slam Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and described Robin Thicke as “a one hit wonder”, but had nothing but praise for British brotherly duo Disclosure, saying he caught them at Glastonbury. “I love that record. It’s got a really old-school fucking acid house vibe to it, which I really fucking like.”

Gallagher also rates Yeezus, saying he’d never heard a Kanye West album before but was a big fan of Black Skinhead. “…I got the album, and it’s fucking great. I really like it. Particularly that track – it’s fucking out there, do you know what I mean? It’s got a great lo-fi, punk vibe to it.”

And as for Arctic Monkeys, who were just awarded NME‘s Album of the Year for their fifth studio effort, AM, Noel isn’t entirely sold. “Half of the Arctic Monkeys record is really good. You know, the other half is like, ‘Eh, yeah’ – but half of it is really fucking good.”

Hopefully Noel’s younger brother doesn’t share his sentiments – Liam Gallagher and his band Beady Eye have just been announced to replace Blur on the Big Day Out tour next month, meaning they’ll be sharing the bill with Arcade Fire.
