Watch Metallica Play Live In Antarctica

Thrash pioneers Metallica became the second band ever to stage a gig in Antarctica last weekend, flying in a cast of South American competition winners to watch the exclusive performance, and now video of the surreal show has emerged online.

You can check out the footage below, with the gig starting at 9:10, and pretend you were at the South Pole yourself, minus the extreme cold and penguins. Metallica played ten songs in the set, including Master Of Puppets, One, and Nothing Else Matters – full setlist is below. The tunes were transmitted to the crowd via headphones as there was no amplification.

James Hetfield and crew are obviously taking delight in mixing things up after being at it for 30 years. Earlier in the month they announced a string of European dates where fans will vote in the songs they want to hear, as well as outing themselves as “Beliebers”.
