Filter To Appear At Soundwave 2014?

Though the release of the second Soundwave 2014 lineup was a cause for celebration for many SW14 ticket-holders, lineup wish-lists continued to be bandied about, with many fans expressing a desire to see industrial heroes and Nine Inch Nails-affiliates Filter make the cut for the 2014 roster.

UPDATE: The third Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement has dropped — full details here.

Now it looks as though Richard Patrick and co. are in with a shot. The band, who released their sixth album, The Sun Comes Out Tonight, back in June, previously expressed excitement at returning to Australia and New Zealand in the new year, via their official Facebook page.

As previously reported, a Twitter dialogue between the band and Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah ensued following the latter’s tweet regarding his sister-in-law’s resemblance to Shrek (see below). After the band wrote, “Oh man. That was cold. hahahaha,” Maddah replied with good news for fans.

“Your douchebag agent emailed me last week. Would be exciting to get you on #SW14. Hope we can make it work,” wrote the touring mogul. Back in April, Maddah professed his love for the industrial outfit to a fan via Twitter, writing, “I love @OfficialFilter If they want on I’ll make it happen.”

UPDATE 3:00pm 31/12/13: It has been noted that Filter have an as-yet-unannounced Australian tour booked, effectively ruling them out from Soundwave 2014.

UPDATE 7:04pm 16/01/14: Even though the third lineup announcement is just one sleep away, the speculation game is far from over. It now appears that Filter may be back on the cards after all. After Sevendust bailed on Soundwave last week, fans were anxious to know if there was a replacement act in the pipeline. AJ immediately responded to one curious tweeter, telling him Sevendust had “just been replaced”.

One astute follower then mentioned in the same thread that Filter have now cancelled their previously booked tour. “Good work AJ” he said, in an ambiguous aside. Maddah slyly replied, “They did, didn’t they?” Sounds promising to us.

Will we be seeing Filter on the lineup announcement tomorrow? We’ll just have to wait and see.
