The promotors of the failed NYE Water Festival at Wet’n’Wild Sydney, which was cancelled just six hours before doors were to open, have blamed the venue for the flop, claiming the water park demanded $250,000 just days before the event.
Diego Tobar of One Cube Entertainment has blamed Wet’n’Wild for the event’s cancellation, telling the Sydney Morning Herald that the venue “made us pay a large sum last week Friday of 250k upfront room hire or event will not go ahead, as well as sign a contract 4days prior event [sic].”
But Wet’n’Wild have today distanced themselves from the colossal flop, with Managing Director Chris Warhurst telling the Sydney Morning Herald that the promoters “were unable to satisfy the transport logistics”:
“We weren’t satisfied that the promoters were able to provide the transport logistics required for this event, and we gave them the option of providing more logistics; they chose to move the event to a different location… We require that there be enough transport to move guests at any particular time, and they were unable to provide that number of buses.”
Tobar, however, claims that “the production was fine, transport was sorted”.
One Cube Entertainment today issued a statement via Facebook, stating that all ticket holders would be getting their cash back:
“Tickets purchased through Moshtix and Myguestlist will be refunded AUTOMATICALLY. These service providers have commented that whilst the process has started immediately, ticket holders should allow a maximum of 10 working days for the refund to reflect in their account.
“Hard/physical tickets purchased will have the refund process commence early next week. Please go back to your point of purchase next week. For enquiries regarding this matter, One Cube Entertainment has setup the hotlines below: info@nyefestival.net.au or 0430 666 999.”
The NYE Water Festival, which was set to feature Will Sparks, Tigerlily, and Yolanda Be Cool, had the plug pulled at the eleventh hour, with One Cube initially stating the event would be moved to Australia Day instead. But after a massive backlash on social media and the help of NSW Fair Trading Minister Stuart Ayres, the promoters were forced to issue full refunds instead, with Ayres stating “you cannot postpone New Year’s Eve”.
