Ben Gibbard, Ad-Rock And Flying Lotus Score Sundance Films

Benjamin Gibbard, frontman of Death Cab For Cutie, Ad-Rock of seminal New York rap group Beastie Boys, and electronic jazz experimentalist Flying Lotus have each produced scores for films to be screened at the upcoming 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah this month.

As Rolling Stone reports, Gibbard has provided the musical accompaniment for Laggies, a dark comedy starring Keira Knightley and Chloe Grace Moretz, directed by Lynn Shelton. According to the festival film guide, Knightley plays a character “content to remain in a permanent adolescence.”

Ad-Rock‘s most recent foray into cinema meanwhile is the score for documentary No No: A Dockumentary, which centres on the life of baseball player Dock Ellis, who while playing as a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1970, achieved a rare no-hitter game while tripping on LSD.

During a Twitter Q&A some months back, Flying Lotus stated that he was involved with scoring a film, which has finally come to fruition. As Exclaim! reports, Flying Lotus has provided the score for Imperial Dreams, the story of a young writer fresh out of jail and looking for his son.
