Sevendust Cancel Soundwave 2014 Appearance

UPDATE: The third Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement has finally dropped — full details here!

US heavy metal act Sevendust have pulled out of Soundwave 2014. Announcing the news via their Facebook page, the band offered little in the way of explanation as to why they are no longer touring Australia, a trip which would have seen them return to our shores for the first time since Soundwave 2011.

The Facebook statement posted simply reads, “Due to issues out of our control, we regrettably must pull out of Soundwave 2014. We apologize to our Australian fans and hope to find a way in the near future to make the trip.”

Interesting, Lori Connolly, wife of Sevendust guitarist John Connolly and administrator of the band’s Facebook page, has also posted a statement under her own name in response to upset fans.

“To all the 7dust fans you are amazing loyal & understanding,” she writes. “It is what they posted, ‘Beyond their control’. My husband is one of the hardest working people I know and lives for this band and the fans he calls family. Sorry this happened.”

This isn’t the first time Sevendust have left their Australian fans hanging. They were booked as supports for an Avenged Sevenfold tour back in July 2011, and when cancelling that tour gave fans nought but a similarly vague statement via Facebook.

“Unfortunately we will not be making the trip to Australia this time with A7X. We will be making plans to come back soon. So sorry for any inconvenience and look forward to our next tour there,” they said at the time.

Sevendust also cancelled a planned Australian tour with US rockers Creed back in 2002.

The band’s latest album Black Out the Sun was one of their most popular in years, landing at number 1 on the Billboard Hard Music album charts. Their recent Pledge Music crowdsourcing campaign to raise money to record an acoustic album was also successful, pulling in 50% more than their target sum. That album is due for release in a little under three months.

Soundwave Festival has been contacted for comment. Music Feeds will have more information on this story as it comes to hand.

UPDATE: AJ Maddah has commented on the reasons for the band’s decision, labelling the cancellation “pissweak”. More details here.
