Lorde’s Australian Tour Cancelled By US Plans

Lorde has cancelled an appearance at Adelaide’s Gear Up festival, part of the UniSA’s O’Week celebrations, as well as plans for another Australian run of shows in order to focus on further conquering the US market, which will include a 16-show run and festival dates including Coachella.

The announcement comes via Adelaide’s Rip It Up, who quoted a Gear Up spokesperson as saying, “It’s been an amazing rise for Lorde and we are extremely happy for her success. Unfortunately, this success has meant that she has had to pull-out of her commitment to appear at Gear Up 2014.”

“Of course we are extremely disappointed Lorde will not perform at Gear Up 2014 – she’s a fantastic artist and it would have been amazing to have an artist of that calibre, so early in their career at our festival,” added spokesperson Anne Marie Parsons in an official statement.

“Unfortunately due to the fact that Lorde is becoming one of the biggest & buzziest artists in the world…she is under a lot of pressure from everywhere in the world and it ultimately leads to timelines and goalposts shifting constantly and very quickly,” said Lorde’s booking agency.

Gear Up had initially drafted Lorde back in May 2013, when she was still a relatively unknown artist with a single EP release to her name. She has since hit number one in the US and sold 1.25 million copies of her debut album, as well as achieving a number two spot on the Triple J Hottest 100.

Melbourne outfit Alpine and a DJ set from indietronica heroes Miami Horror have been announced as the replacements. Meanwhile, Lorde is touring Australia as part of Laneway Festival 2014, which also saw a cancellation from the Kiwi songstress after she pulled out of an Auckland date.
