Testament, Newsted Sidewaves Announced

American heavy-metal heroes Testament and Newsted are teaming up for two Sidewaves in Sydney and Melbourne, after Newsted was ousted from the Megadeth sideshow.

Testament, who formed in Northern California in 1983, have purveyed a famous brand of thrash metal for decades, rising the ranks alongside bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. The group’s latest album Dark Roots Of Earth continued the band’s face-melting heavy metal, picking up where 2008’s The Formation Of Damnation left off.

Testament recently parted ways with bassist Greg Christian, with past band member and fretless metal bass master Steve DiGiorgio taking over during this year’s Soundwave tour. DiGiorgio is also set to work on the next Testament album with his old band.

Jason Newsted, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Grammy winner, continues to explore the reaches of heavy metal music with his own band, the quartet Newsted. The group made their full-length debut in 2013 with the appropriately titled album debut Heavy Metal Music. After being dropped from Megadeth’s sidewaves tour, the group have joined Testament for these two east-coast shows.

Testament and Newsted’s sidewaves will take place over two nights in Melbourne and Sydney, beginning with a show at the Esplanade Hotel on Tuesday, 25th February and finishing with a show at Oxford Art Factory the following night. Tickets are one sale 9:00am AEDT Tuesday, 11th February.
