Record Roundup: Brody Dalle, Tori Amos, Chromeo

An Australian-born punk veteran, an icon of the 90s female singer-songwriter explosion and player in the mainstream crossover of house music, and two Montreal boys who call themselves the “Larry David of funk,” today’s Record Roundup brings news from Brody Dalle, Tori Amos, and Chromeo.

Brody Dalle – Diploid Love

Following the excitement that met the release of Meet The Foetus / Oh The Joy, former Distillers and Spinnerette singer Brody Dalle has announced that she will unveil her debut solo LP, titled Diploid Love, on Friday, 25th April.

“I’ve always had a hand in crafting how [an album’s] going to sound and hearing it and trying to make that happen. But it’s the first time I’ve put my name on something for production,” said Dalle, who co-produced the LP with Alain Johannes and husband Josh Homme.

Tori Amos – Unrepentant Geraldines

Having released several highly acclaimed albums, influenced a generation of artists, and broken genre boundaries, Tori Amos has nowhere to go but pop/rock. Amos’ new full-length effort, Unrepentant Geraldines, is a step forward for the artist, slated for 16th May.

While a definite step out of the often narrow ideas of who Tori Amos is, Unrepentant Geraldines also marks a return to the singer-songwriter’s roots as the creator of songs that are ultimately contemporary, personal, innovative, and unmistakably Amos.

Chromeo – White Women

Last we heard of Canadian electrofunk duo Chromeo, they were unveiling the sultry Come Alive, their collaboration with chillwave hero Toro y Moi. The Canuck boys have now announced that they will unveil their latest studio album, White Women, on Friday, 9th May.

White Women sees the self-proclaimed “Larry David of funk” duo silencing detractors who called them a mere tongue-in-cheek project and unveiling their most fully realised body of work to date, crafting a sound that combines their modern indie roots with a raft of retro influences.
