Celebrating its 21st year, Triple J continued its much loved Australia Day tradition counting down the best songs of 2013 in another massive Hottest 100. Today, the annual Triple J Hottest 100 double album is out on the shelves, filled with the best tunes 2013 had to offer.
In the end it was Melbourne artist Vance Joy’s song Riptide which won the hearts of triple j listeners, who crowned it number one in 2013’s Hottest 100. “Riptide is a first for the Hottest 100 in a couple of respects,” said Triple J Music Director Richard Kingsmill. “We’ve never had a winning song from an artist who is so new that they’ve not even had an album to their name yet.”
“It’s also the first #1 to have been written on a ukulele,” he added. This year’s double album features 41 tracks from the countdown, including songs from Daft Punk, Lorde, Arctic Monkeys, Kanye West, Matt Corby, Haim, Lana Del Rey, Arcade Fire, Flume, London Grammar and many more who filled the triple j charts.
