The Firetree – The Space Between

The debut EP from Byron Bay’s The Firetree is four tracks of beautifully constructed indie pop songs that reflect innocent summer nights between two young lovers. It’s light and breezy. Sweet and joyous.

The five piece centered around the twin vocals of Dale Buchan and Josephine Cubis follow the same path as other indie folk darlings Angus & Julia Stone, yet to make the comparison would be unfair. These songs have a richer musical tapestry and have a more filled out sound thanks in large to the great backing musicians and excellent songwriting.

Opening cut, Tame is the style of indie folk that independent radio stations love and would suit a independent film soundtrack. Sun And Moon is a tale of two young lovers and is the best example of how the two vocalists work together to produce their signature sound. Lay Down sees Josephine take the vocal lead in a song with a slight hint of country music mixed in. Final track Time Flies is amore upbeat track, perfect for summer road trips to the beach.

This is a friendly little EP that is worthy of a few listens and worth checking out as they play plenty of shows around the city and country in 2011.
