Triple J
‘House Party’ Compilation

Written by Sneha Dave

Triple j’s house party connoisseur, Nina Las Vegas, has put her spin expertise to work with triple j’s debut House Party compilation album. Spanning two discs, Miss Vegas transports Saturday night’s House Party to your car, bedroom, kitchen or bathroom (if that’s your thing) for your listening pleasure, anytime anywhere.

The first disc puts the house in house party, showcasing the best of dance music with the familiar electronic styling’s of Parachute Youth, The 2 Bears, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and The Chemical Brothers, to name a few.

However, disc 1 is just a warm-up. The real party drops on the second disc, with an eclectic mix of hip hop, indie, and electronic, swirling the old school swag of Missy Elliot and Dead Prez with the contemporary flow of ASAP Rocky, Django Django, Electric Guest and Hot Chip, among many.

The song choice on this compilation is awesome, balancing triple j’s high rotation favourites with house party classics. My only criticism: a case of sloppy mixing. Being a regular listener to House Party on Saturday nights and witnessing Nina’s killer set at Splendour in the Grass, I felt her skills fell short of the crafty mixes I know she’s capable of. Nevertheless, I did manage to cut a rug, and at the end of the day, isn’t that the point of it all?

To support the release, Nina Las Vegas will be taking House Party around the nation with the help of Deacon Rose, Beni, Flume and What So Not. Check out the dates closest to your home town:
