So It Goes, the first single from Ali. E’s forthcoming debut album, is raw, unadorned and unafraid. With a contemplative aura and a looping fuzz-laden guitar riff at its heart and backbone, So It Goes found its genesis in Ali. E’s recent literary adventures. Inspired by Slaughterhouse Five protagonist Billy Pilgrim’s apathetic approach to life’s little catastrophes and Pablo Neruda’s animalistic descriptions, So It Goes is a rumination on our mortal temporality.
An emotive track that takes strength in its simplicity, So It Goes was one of the first to be penned for the coming album and was recorded initially with just vocals and guitar with Brooke Penrose over Easter 2011. Sensing that a piece of the puzzle was missing Ali. E entreated fellow Little Athletics alumni Brad Rusbridge to round out the track with a wash of uncomplicated drums.
A marked departure from her work with Melbourne projects Damn Terran and Ferry Tails, So It Goes is already a favourite of Ali. E’s recent live solo sets.
