Maria Minerva Announces Australian/New Zealand Tour August/September, 2012

Written by Marc Zanotti on July 3, 2012

Maria Minerva, real name Maria Juur, is headed to Australia and bringing her particular brand of folksy music to our shores for the very first time. Describing her musical persona, Juur explains that Maria Minerva was created out of a desire to express herself via an unaffected entity.

“Maria Minerva is myself as my own little sister, born out of need to do whatever. Maria Minerva has not heard of HQ recording. Maria Minerva has not heard that postmodernism is passé. Maria Minerva wishes she was born in the 1980s and born again in the 1990s. They call it lo-fi, I call it 21st century folk music…”

For those unfamiliar with Minerva, below are a couple of SoundCloud clips to help you get acquainted with the Estonian-born, London-based singer. Her cover of the Bee Gees’ More Than a Women is particularly dreamy.
