Due out March 23, 2012 – the film The Hunger Games is an adaption of the 2008 novel of the same name, written by Suzanne Collins.
The film takes place in a futuristic world where North America as we know it has been destroyed and replaced by a nation known as Panem. Panem is built around a wealthy capitol, which rules over a dozen surrounding poverty stricken districts. Once a year the capitol holds a contest called The Hunger Games in which children aged between 12 and 18 from the poorer districts are forced to battle to the death.
The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence as the 16-year-old protagonist Katniss Everdeen, who has volunteered for games in place of her younger sister.
With a plot that somewhat resembles the startling 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, The Hunger Games is sure to deliver plenty of spine-tingling moments.
