The New Pollution: # 021 – The Concept

And now, to present the award for “most difficult band/artist to Google” is former winner Matt Johnson, lead singer and guitarist for The The.

Matt Johnson:  “… and the nominees are;”

“San Francisco based indie-rock band, Girls!”  ** applause **

“Brooklyn buzz-wave band, Friends!!”  ** generous applause**

“And finally, Swedish version of Phoenix, The Concept!!”  **crowd erupts**

OK, I’ve grown tired of this introduction gimmick. The Concept are an indie rock band from Stockholm. Their tracks are very catchy and will probably have you dancing on the first listen. The Concept sound a hell of a lot like Phoenix, but they seem to have a bit more synth/bass here and there, reminiscent of Miami Horror. The Strokes also shine through gloriously.  It doesn’t look like they have an album or EP out just yet, but given The Concept appear to have only existed for 3 months (and their popularity seems to be on the rise in the United States), one could expect a release of some kind in the coming weeks or months. In the mean time, check out the tracks below. I’ve also included a video for each of the nominees; Lust For Life by Girls is religious hippie, Elvis Costello inspired rock while I’m His Girl by Friends would be a really cool song if the lyrics weren’t written by a 13 year old. Listen to all four songs, they’re GOOD!
