The New Pollution: # 031 – Oberhofer

I first heard Oberhofer back in 2010 with a single called Don’t Need Ya, which was good enough that I remember it, but mediocre enough to turn me off further investigation into the band at the time. Knowing about the band before you aside, Oberhofer have some amazing new songs out with Away Frm U being the clear stand out. I recently saw the official video on Rage, but I have embedded the Letterman performance because it will rock your damn socks off.

Another band with limited online presence, Oberhofer seemingly originate from Tacoma (Washington State) but are now based in New York City. Brad Oberhofer’s (21-year-old lead singer) lyrics border on juvenile (think The Wombats) but I don’t think he’s looking to be taken too seriously. This feature, along with Brad’s attempt to bring back double denim, make him much more endearing than his similarly epic sounding counterparts. The new album is called Time Capsules II and it’s available now!

Self-described “coincidence pop”, Oberhofer are for fans of The Flaming Lips, Pulp, Arcade Fire and Simon Amstell (without the frail, innocent vibe). The band have also had a crack at Kanye West’s Runaway, which can be listened to here.
