Are These The 10 Most Popular Acts In The World Right Now?

With music streaming services now dominating the global music market, the huge amounts of data created by the likes of Spotify, SoundCloud and YouTube say a lot about which artists we’re listening to the most.

In the first six months of 2015, music streaming services clocked up over one trillion track streams, according to Next Big Sound‘s Data To Date report, released earlier this month.

Sorting through the huge amount of streams, Next Big Sound has ranked the most popular artists on each streaming service they collected data for, revealing who the world is listening to the most, and how each of the streaming services differ in overall taste.

The 10 most streamed artists on Spotify, YouTube and SoundCloud can be seen in the galleries below, and while each list is dominated by pop stars, hip hop magnates and EDM artists, it’s clear that no single music streaming service can say its listeners reflect the musical tastes of the entire world.

Spotify’s 10 most popular acts so far this year, for example, are all solo artists backed by huge record labels. YouTube’s most popular musos also seem to be ones with a track record of music video success, while SoundCloud’s top 10 features more hip hop and rap artists.

Data from Spotify has previously been used to name the most timeless songs of all time, the top metal genres, the most popular genre overall and the songs that define major cities around the world.
