Millencolin’s 5 Tips For Bands About To Tour Australia

Swedish skate punk lords Millencolin are due to touch down in Australia at the end of the month, flitting about this wide brown land of ours for the True Brew tour. Longtime fans of our distant country, (it’s mutual babes) the legends have many a tale from recent traversals of Oz, and we thought we’d put that knowledge to good use by getting guitarist Matthias Farm to dish up on the Five Things They’d Tell Young Bands About Touring Australia. Check out the wise advice below and check out all dates and deets for their tour underneath.

Watch out for spiders.

The first time we went to Australia – it’s going to be 20 years ago when we came, late March, early April – right before we went I watched a documentary about the wildlife in Australia and the guy was like, “Dude never sleep on the floor in Australia.”

When we got there it was a very low budget tour and the first day we flew in and went to the house and we were like, “Where we going to sleep?” and the host was like “On the floor.” So I slept on the floor and was really scared but it was not a problem.

But he also – I knew about the spider called the redback – I just wanted to see one and he said, “Come on!” and out in the garage and he lifted like a bucket and there was like 20 of them and I realised that they’re all over the place. We were kind of stressed out by it so I would say watch out for spiders.

You have to check out the wombats.

It’s a weird little creature. We went to the zoo and checked out the wombats and they were… weird. You can’t go to Australia without checking out the wombats.

Don’t eat the vegemite.

It’s very, very nasty. I’ve tried so many times but it’s not good. It tastes like – not tasty. You shouldn’t try that.

I would go to the F1 in Melbourne.

We’re a good friend of this Swedish guy called Marcus Ericsson who drives for Sauber and it’s weird we’ve been to Australia so many times around this time but I’ve always missed it. We’ve been here the same time but in a different city but I would go there. It’s a really nice race and a cool track. That’s a cool thing in Melbourne, definitely.

There’s a cool thing where, in Sydney, you can go to the aquarium by the harbour.

You can actually check out great white sharks and stuff like that. I went there many times and it’s very, very nice. They have super nice wild life in Australia and sharks – I’m fascinated by them.

It’s so opposite from Sweden. The first time I went to Australia I was amazed that it was a mix of Europe and a tropical paradise in a way.
