Music Feeds Faves – 23/09/16

Following a short BIGSOUND/ post-BIGSOUND mayhem-induced break, the Music Feeds team are back to wrangling together the fresh new tunes that made an impact on them over the last few weeks, for the ultimate new music playlist. It’s Music Feeds Faves!

Warpaint – Whiteout

Just a heads up — Warpaint’s new album Heads Up is out today, and it opens with the swaying, spiralling and super-cool Whiteout. Oh and the rest of the album is exciting too, because, well, any new Warpaint music deserves your full attention. / Tom Williams, News Editor

The Dead Love – Summer

The official soundtrack to your next hungover beach day has arrived, my friends. It’s a refreshing slice of pop-grunge balladry called Summer by Sydney trio The Dead Love and it’s as sweet and uplifting as an icy watermelon mojito and as angsty and melancholic as the reason why you drank it.

It’s been brought to life with a shmickly-shot single-take video of the trio at a chiller house party, which also features a few familiar cameos by Sydney’s underground rawk krew *cough* The Lazys, The Art, Ex-Cassette cough*.

Summer is the third single sliced off The Dead Love’s sophomore record So Whatever which has just dropped into our laps, and the lads are currently on tour supporting it so go see em why dontcha. / Emmy Mack, Staff Writer

Sparrows – Get To Know You

All the ladies in the house let me hear ya say SPARROWS. This soon to be superstar is already doing some serious representing in the electro-indie-pop department. Her latest track Get To Know You is no exception, with its downbeat, writhing electro that brims with found sounds. The whole song twists and twirls as it unfolds around you, and her vocals just sit atop of it all, warm and multi-dimensional in their delivery. Sparrows is all about the abstract, and she certainly isn’t afraid to be a little weird.

Gentleman I’m feeling high

Music surrounds a rainbow of sound

Keeping us close in the moonlight

Men will come as women go

Stay tuned. / Zana Rose, Staff Writer

Mezko – Trust

It’s a well known psychological fact (slash possibly something I just made up) that when a week has kicked your arse, and the prospect of a weekend sleep-in is but around the corner, the only way to relieve the tension of those agonising in-between hours is to lose your shit to a synth-laden banger. Today’s medicine is provided by Sydney duo Mezko. Trust immediately hits you on the head with its ’80s tinged opening beat – that I swear, if you listen, is reminiscent of Huey Lewis And The News’ Hip To Be Square – before the post-punk guitar riffs and hypnotic vocals kick in. The clip too is an explosion of glittery wonder – so I’m just going to chuck this one on repeat until Saturday rolls in. / Nastassia Baroni, Managing Editor
