Music Feeds Faves – 30/09/16

The Music Feeds team wrangle together the fresh new tunes that made an impact on this week, for the ultimate new music playlist. It’s Music Feeds Faves!

Lido – Murder

Don’t let the title fool you, this is one of Lido’s most artful and creative pieces of work to date. Lido has conducted orchestras, played many different instruments, and created electronic music; but in Murder we see all three worlds come together in a beautiful mesh of soundscape and skill.

The prodigious Norwegian talent continues to surpass expectations with every release and this time he’s thrown away most of the tropes of a traditional song structure, combining a masterful array of melodic ideas with often hard-hitting drops and perfectly fitting vocals. Each section of this track takes you through a different journey, linking sound to a particular emotion; from positive and hard-hitting, to reflective, to destructive, and finally, a glorious instrumental dominated by strings to finish.

There may not be a verse and chorus as you’ve come to expect them; but melodic ideas are rarely used once and thrown away – instead explored in different octaves, played by different instruments or different synths, and re-imagined in other creative ways. And despite all this there’s definitely an aura of the unknown – as Lido makes it hard to know exactly what to expect next in the song, but without losing his increasingly inimitable sound that can be heard throughout. / Zanda Wilson, Staff Writer

Cashmere Cat – Trust Nobody (Feat. Selena Gomez + Tory Lanez)

Over the last year, Cashmere Cat has low-key become one of the best pop producers around. He’s produced for Britney Spears, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd and has still managed to avoid those “sell out” tags that people love to throw at others who are advancing their career. One of the main reasons is because Cashmere Cat is making everyone enter his world instead of the other round. This time around, he’s pulled in Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez to craft a super tasty, experimental piece of electronica, buoyed by honey-soaked pop melodies.

Gomez sounds the best we’ve heard her sound in a while because Cashy has crafted the perfect sonic backdrop, while Lanez, who is a regular collaborator, sounds right at home. It all adds up to smooth as hell track that escapes any genre labels. / Sam Murphy, Staff Writer

PLUM – New Globe

PLUM is a new ambient project from Chaz Bundick, who has also made music under names like Toro Y Moi and Les Sins over the years.

Bundick’s debut track as PLUM is the hypnotic New Globe, which is a little Brian Eno, a little William Basinski and a little Boards Of Canada, which pretty much means all eight minutes of it is beautiful.

The song is also specifically inspired by the still-contemporary New Age music of composer Laraaji, apparently.

Set Mo – See Right Through Me

Call me predictable, but nothing gets me as pumped for impending long weekend activities quite like a choreographed dance sequence. Clearly, Sydney’s Set Mo are on the same wavelength, today unveiling their new single and visuals for See Right Through Me – a track that will no doubt dominate your summer dancefloors and airwaves.

The track’s floating beats are given even more levity by Xavier Dunn’s buoyant vocals and are then punctuated by Set Mo’s version of The Bus Stop, circa 2016. Coming soon to a wedding near you. / Nastassia Baroni, Managing Editor

Korn – A Different World, Feat. Corey Taylor

Double your daily dose of nu metal thanks to this unholy alliance between two of the genre’s most fearsome pioneers. Korn and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor have united for their first fully-fledged musical collab and the results are as brutal and old school awesome as yo’d expect. Dubbed A Different World, the fresh track reps the third kernal of Korn’s forthcoming 12th LP The Serenity Of Suffering and its crushing riffage, dance-beat chorus and slashing screams from #KornyTaylor will hit you like two fists in the gut. Turn it up LOUD./ Emmy Mack, Senior Writer
