Music Feeds Podcast Episode #123: Antemasque

Antemasque, the latest project to be given musical birth to by The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, have already unveiled their self-titled debut album to the delight of fans everywhere and, according to Bixler-Zavala, things are looking good now he’s “back in business with my old soulmate”.

The acclaimed musician, known for his previous projects’ progressive and expansive tracks, says he’s excited about getting back to the basics with Antemasque. “The reason it feels new is that we’ve always threatened the world by saying that the most revolutionary thing we could do would be to write a pop song. It’s really what I listen to,” he explains.

“Being in this band in a strange way is like a time machine for me, especially because of our camaraderie and our chemistry but [also] just the brevity of the music, it reminds me of something I would have skated to when I was younger.”

“Just the simplicity of it, that’s what I’m excited for people to sort of get back to.” Soon to be in the country to show off the new tunes in front of Soundwave 2015 audiences, Bixler-Zavala says life is looking pretty sweet right now.

“And the end of the day, I’m back with my friend and life’s fucking awesome right now.”
