Having spent decades as one of the undisputed leaders of the heavy music scene, progressive rockers Dream Theater have chosen their latest opus, full-length #12, as their definitive self-titled release. The album is set for release to Australian fans this Friday, 20th September, so Music Feeds caught up with keyboardist Jordan Rudess to speak about the process behind the album and the current climate within the band.
Jordan explained that there’s no such thing as “down time” for the members of the band, as everyone keeps busy with other projects when they’re not concentrating on the Theater. When they’re in the studio together, however, there are no distractions – its a democratic, focused beam of energy.
Dream Theater is not just the first release to feature newest member Mike Mangini, but also the first to feature his original writing. Jordan told us about how the band took to the new blood, and vice versa.
The band have fond memories of Australian tours past, and Jordan has faith Dream Theater will return when they hit the road for their world tour in support of the new album.
