Floridians Anberlin shocked fans earlier this year when they announced they would call it quits in 2014, with one final album and world tour. Gearing up for the Australian leg of that farewell tour, drummer Nathan Young called into Music Feeds for the latest instalment of Music Feeds Podcast.
“I think what we’ve always said is that what was more important to us was our friendship and how we got along,” said Nathan of the band’s decision to split. “We did always say we wanted to go out on top, we didn’t want to be one of those bands that kind of was at a point where it was obvious.”
“It’s a hard thing to be able to make that call. To be able to say, ‘Hey, I think it’s time’. But I think we did it. For the most part it was strange but it hit that spot where it just felt like it was time.” He says the recording of their final album, Lowborn, was “the perfect way” to end their trajectory as a band.
Nathan says Anberlin are also eager to repay the love Australian fans have given them over the years. “Australia is such a special place to us. For us that was the one place where we went overseas forever ago and they actually embraced us and actually was into our record,” he adds.
“As soon as we had this discussion, we know there was no way we wouldn’t go to Australia. That was just a given.” Readers can check out the band’s final Australian tour dates, which kick off this September, below. The release of Lowborn was recently pushed back to Friday, 25th July.
