The concept for Brizzy indie-pop groove machine FeelsClub‘s new video for 1×1 came from visions of eternal benders, that go on forever and ever, laden with “D-grade decadence”. This video is one brightly coloured kitsch-fest, brimming with big lips, fluffy feathers, pink potions and pineapples.
Lisa Stella wakes up to soft little feathers gently falling all over and around her in her bedroom. Dopily dragging herself from her bed, she saunters to the dressing table mirror, stepping over a convulsing purple vibrator cast aside on the carpet. After pouring a fluorescent pink potion from a crystal cut bottle reading ‘Drink Me’, Stella makes her way, sporting some freshly painted pink lips, a fur coat and a bare bum, down a long hallway towards an outdoor pool. In true Snow White style, she bites into a (poison?) apple along the way, before hurling a magenta pineapple into the bright aqua water.
1×1 is a feast for your eyes and ears: Alice in Wonderland meets Death Becomes Her meets Snow White and the Seven Dwarves visuals all set to churning ’80s synth-pop.
Explains songwriter St Jonnie:
“The first clip we did for our last single, Come On, was totally DIY and it ended up being really well received. So we sort of sat down and went… fuck… what now?” Then, while Director Pernell, Producer (and long time friend) Dan and Mika were running over logistics, a vision emerged.
“I had this vision of a dirty hotel room (the morning after a bender) and the whole world slowly losing focus as this young woman wakes up and continues the bender in the most D grade decadence. So, I very politely interrupted their conversation by word vomiting a little story with as much imagery as I could muster – and our amazing Director wrote it all down and just ran with it, she really is a bloody genius.”
P.S. The song itself was written by St. Jonnie, naked and damp, after busting out of the shower with a big idea.
“While in the shower this tune came to me and I more or less walked straight from my shower to my desk… still naked and a little wet, I sat down and started to write. The end result ended up being an upbeat tropical tune filled with lyrics about my apparent inability to get anything just the way I want it.”
P.P.S. FeelsClub love playing house parties with beverage-shaped payments, and judging from their new video they definitely know how to bring the party. Boom.
