The group just left Australia as part of the Big Day Out 2012 tour and did not fail to impress. Kasabian are currently touring Europe whilst recording before they hit their tour of the States. New material is expected from the band within the next two years however no word has been released just yet. Along with these releases, they are also releasing song by song documentaries which go inside their latest release Velociraptor which went Number 1 in both UK and Scotland last year.

Yesterday, only 12,000 punters turned out to the Big Day Out in Perth, which followed on from poor crowds in Adelaide on Friday.

Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit said the organisers got a ‘smack on the bum’ for removing Kanye from the Perth line-up:

We took away one of our headline acts and we got a smack on the bum from the Perth punters

Late last year, The Big Day Out promoters announced a partnership with C3, the guys behind the Lollapalooza Festival.

According to the Herald Sun, Fred Durst claims that the Big Day Out promoters ‘spun the tragedy and poisoned Limp Bizkit’s name’, Durst said:

It was manipulated by the promoter in their favour because everybody needed a scapegoat. After that, the offers to come to Australia weren’t exactly pouring in. For a while, it felt wrong, and we needed to step away.

Durst has also reenforced claims he made during the inquest stating that security at the BDO 2001 event was inadequate.

It didn’t just happen out of the blue…We were fighting with promoters the whole time.

During the inquest the BDO promoters blamed Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst for the crowd crush. However, Coroner Jacqueline Milledge said BDO promoters did not put adequate safety arrangements into place to prevent crowd crushing. She also stated that Fred Durst should have ‘acted more responsibly’ during the rescue process.

Limp Bizkit will be touring Australia later this month for the Soundwave 2012 Festival.

It hasn’t been a smooth ride for the Big Day Out in 2012. It was supposed to be a celebration of 20 years, however it turned into a bit of a nightmare. Vivian Lees quit the partnership just days after tickets went on sale saying ‘I feel like I’ve been in an abusive relationship’.

Remaining partner Ken West then sold 51% of the company to a promotion company from the United States, reports SMH.

Update 05/02/2012 BDO CEO Adam Zammit has told the age that Big Day Out sold 50% of the company to c3, not 51% as previously reported by Adelaide now, Sydney Morning Herald, Fasterlouder, Optus Zoo, Perth Now, Tonedeaf, centralwesterndaily and brisbanetimes.

Big Day Out 2012- Perth Transport Information

Public transport is the easiest way to get to and from the Big Day Out. The event is joint ticketed, meaning your ticket to the BDO includes travel on all Transperth services, for three hours before, during and after the event until end of service. Simply show your ticket to the driver or inspector on your way to the event and your wristband on the way home.

Transport will have a shuttle bus service operating direct to McCallum Park from the Wellington Street Bus Station in Perth. Catch the train to Perth Station or Perth Underground, which is right next door to the bus station. Trains are scheduled to arrive every 15 minutes throughout the day however you can visit transperth.wa.gov.au or call 13 62 13 for more information.

After the event shuttle buses will run from the venue back to Perth where you can easily transfer to a train service. Trains will continue to operate on a 15-minutre frequency throughout the night until end of service. The last trains out of Perth on all lines will depart Perth and Perth Underground at 12.15am.

With public transport included and plenty of parking nearby at Taylor Reserve, getting in and out of the Big Day Out is easy!

The news comes after Big Day Out organisers were forced to downsize the event due to poor ticket sales early on. The venues were downgraded and Kanye West was removed from the Adelaide and Perth line-ups.

Crowds were also atrocious in New Zealand when the 2012 event kicked off, however the Sydney and Gold Coast events both saw decent crowds.

Big Day Out promoter Ken West recently announced a partnership with C3 events to enable the festival to continue in 2013. Fingers crossed 2012 won’t be the last year for Adelaide and Perth…

Soundgarden will headline the main stage after slow ticket sales forced organisers to downsize the Adelaide and Perth venues and remove Kanye West from the line-ups.

Big Day Out 2012 Adelaide Transport Information

ADELAIDE METRO TRAIN
All trains on the Belair and Noarlunga lines after 10:00am will stop at Keswick Station. From there it’s just a 10-minute walk to the venue. Normal timetables apply.

ADELAIDE METRO TRAM
Trams run from North Terrace to Goodwood approximately every 15 minutes. The last tram departs North Terrace for Glenelg at 12:00 midnight. Normal timetables apply.

ADELAIDE METRO CITY BUS
All the usual bus timetables along Goodwood Road apply. All Express and F services will also stop on Goodwood Road. Get off at stop 2 and walk to Rose Terrace entrance.

BIG DAY OUT BUS
Go to the Big Day Out Special Bus Stop just east of Currie Street stop V1 between 10:00am and 1:30pm and you won’t have to wait more than 15 mins for a bus straight to the showgrounds. Buses returning to the city will depart from Greenhill Road stop 1C (straight through from the BDO entrance) every few minutes from 9:00pm until midnight.

An extended taxi rank will operate on the southern side of Rose Terrace.

The D-Barrier system controls the number of people filling the mosh-pit area in front of the main stage. The System was implemented following the death of 16-year-old Jessica Michalik at The Sydney Big Day Out in 2001. Fred Durst was performing with Limp Bizkit at the event when Jessica Michalik was crushed in the mosh pit; she died as a result of asphyxiation five days later.

In a statement sent to spa, Big Day Out Production Designer Matt Doherty explained why they have removed the D Barrier for the smaller shows, and re-affirmed their confidence in the new system:

The smaller capacity shows in Adelaide and Perth have exactly the same medical and surveillance infrastructure as the East Coast shows. The barrier system for these shows has been re-designed to suit the single stage setup. The most important consideration here is the mobility of the audience. Audience health and safety is at all times the number one priority of the Big Day Out.

In the interview with spa, Fred Durst continues:

I would think that, you know, after all that you know… I would hope they would learn… we’ve all learned… that whole day of arguing with them before we went on.

Durst is referring to the relationship breakdown that occurred between Limp Bizkit and The Big Day Out organisers before the fateful day in Sydney in 2001. Durst alleged that he had warned the Big Day Out promoters about the possible dangers, but they didn’t listen:

We begged, we screamed, we sent letters, we tried to take precautions, because we are Limp Bizkit, we know we cause this big emotional blister of a crowd…the crush was already happening before we even walked onstage and the worst thing that could happen, that I told them would happen, did, and a girl died.

The next day Limp Bizkit left the country and only informed the BDO organisers through a note left in the band’s hotel room.

After an investigation into Jessica’s death, the state coroner issued a statement saying responsibility was on the Big Day Out’s promoters Creative Entertainment Australia, saying there was overwhelming evidence that crowd density was dangerous when Limp Bizkit went on stage. Limp Bizkit was also criticised in the report, the coroner said that Durst could have taken the situation more seriously, with his comments on stage during the attempt to rescue Michalik “alarming and inflammatory”.

Recently Jessica Michalik’s father has also critisied the Big Day Out organisers for removing the D Barriers from the Auckland, Perth and Adelaide festivals, speaking with the SMH he said:

In my book it [the D barrier] was her main legacy. Her whole purpose of living was to make the changes for ever…I am dumbfounded that these people, after only ten years, forget why the secondary barrier was there in the first place.

Limp Bizkit will visit Australia for the first time in 11 years playing the Soundwave 2012 Festival, which kicks off in Brisbane on February 25th.

The Big Day Out 2012 tour will head to Adelaide on Friday before the festival winds up in Perth on Sunday.

Tyler was also spotted at the front of the stage at the Sydney Big Day Out during Kanye’s set. Music Feeds’ reviewer Alex Langlands was also front of stage during Kanye’s set, he described Tyler’s enthusiasm:

When Kanye made the stage, the crowd was completely captivated. Even Tyler, The Creator from Odd Future was in some form of trance.

Kanye will head home this week after he was removed from the Big Day Out Adelaide and Perth line-ups due to downsizing after ticket sales were slow.

The Big Day Out 2012 festival will head to Adelaide on Friday and wind up in Perth on Sunday. Soundgarden will headline the remaining shows.
