As they’ve emphasised several times, Powderfinger have no intensions of performing together ever again.

And the band’s ex-guitarist Ian Haug re-confirmed that stance at BIGSOUND in Brisbane this week, telling punters at his keynote panel that the band will “never do a Farnsie” and reform.

theMusic.com.au reports that while at the panel, which was hosted by Courier Mail‘s Noel Mengel, Haug touched on several issues surrounding the band and his own personal future. Read the full report here.

Haug was the only member of Powderfinger who didn’t want the band to split up, and he would have preferred they took a long break (eg: go into “indefinite hibernation” like their 2007 tour buddies Silverchair) instead of ending things completely.

However, he said that he was glad the band ended things the way they did instead of coming to blows, and that he’s enjoyed having a massive chunk of time off.

And, it looks like we’ll be hearing some new music from him soon. Responding to an audience question, Haug said he has booked a gig for his other band The Predators later this year, and they will be releasing music early 2013. The Predators also contains Haug’s former Powderfinger bandmate and bass player John Collins.

Powderfinger split in 2010 following the release of their seventh album Golden Rule, and a three-month farewell tour that saw them play to over 300,000 people across the country.

Here at Music Feeds, we thought we’d revisit that moment, when it all ended for Powderfinger as they played their final song – These Days – at the final show at the Riverstage in Brisbane in November 2010. Oh, and keep an eye out for the guy who pats Haugy on the back and gets his guitar pick at 7.15. (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Though they joke about being ‘not indie, but not not indie’, there’s a lot of truth in the idea in regards to Adelaide’s Traveller & Fortune. Having built the foundations of a band that can’t and won’t neatly fit into one box, the band showcased their unique vibe at BIGSOUND Live.

Having originally started off with new members, the band has now found a lineup worthy of representing their name. The members briefly chat to the team about their origins, before we get to the nitty gritty of it, discussing the very topical Adelaide Live Music scene.

The band paint a much different picture from most when talking about their city. Describing a much more vibrant and active culture than most people think, Traveller & Fortune believe it’s in no worse shape than any other city’s live music scene. With venues closing in states all over the world, we discuss whether this should be handled on a federal level, rather than state by state.

The band touch on their new single, and let us know what the near future will hold for them.

With their debut album Persona Non Grata fresh from the press, the Music Feeds team caught up with hard rockers Strangers as they smash on with their tour, which included a stop-off at BIGSOUND.

Having locked in residencies at both Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar and Sydney’s Lansdowne, off the back of the release, bandmates Ben and Mark seem deservingly proud of the album, though Ben was a lot more vocal on the topic. Based around the idea of ‘treat me like I’m dead’, the band drew inspiration from their own personal experience, being treated like ‘unwelcome’ guests in their own town.

The first single, and namesake for the album, is currently at radio, and comes with a video clip.

Here is an opportunity for everyone to help out some straight-up decent dudes. While in town for this year’s BIGSOUND conference, The Good Ship guitarist John Meyer has had both his guitar and a case full of pedals stolen.

According to the event started by the band, the guitar was a “Fender Telecaster Thinline, sunburst finish, wraparound pickguard, two single coil pickups. Small dent on front of body. It was in a soft case (the thick type with hard foam) and had a rockabilly style Lucky 13 strap. and the pedals were a black one about 50 x 70 cm, with silver clasps. Inside were tuner, delay, distortion, tremolo and boost pedals, plus assorted leads and other small things”

The gear was in a locked car parked in what was meant to be a secure McWhirters car park, but upon returning, they found that it had been taken.

The band strongly rely on their instruments, which directly pay the bills. Share this article around and help raise awareness and get John’s gear back, and hopefully bust this idiot in the process.

All eyes will be on Voltaire Twins’ BIGSOUND Live Showcase. They are one of Australia’s most recent successful international exports. However, the band would be feeling very little pressure at all as this won’t be their first Music Industry Conference.

Early this year, Voltaire Twins travelled to the prestigious South by South West conference in the US, delivering a showcase to a room packed with prolific industry figures and fans on the other side of the planet. That was simply the first big event for the band this year, who went on to win a WAMi award and to appear at Canadian Music Week.

Having very recently supported San Cisco throughout a national tour, Voltaire Twins also released their third EP over the past few months. The trio explain in depth their creative process, as well as the very NSFW video that came along with the new material.
