It’s been a massive year over at Purple Sneakers HQ, and we’re planning a New Years Eve event that will be bigger and better than ever before!

Last year’s SOLD OUT Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party saw 2,500 people partying over three levels of Manning House with 10 bands, 3 internationals, and a bucket load of DJs. It was SUPER MASSIVE, and it’s gonna be hard to top it. So can we top it?

Hell yeah we can!!

That means this year at Manning House there will be more party people, more international acts, and more party areas than ever before for Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party.

We are proud to be presenting the only Sydney show for three international acts that have never been to Australia: The Boxer Rebellion (UK), Ponytail (US) and Baddies (UK).

British epic indie band The Boxer Rebellion are currently receiving critical acclaim for their album ‘Union’, which also received the distinguished achievement of being the first album to hit the US billboard charts without actually having an official release – it has sold close to 250,000 units digitally in the USA.

Whilst Baltimore based art rockers Ponytail have been voted as one of the best live bands in the world and described as ‘a tornado of awesome’.

UK indie punks Baddies have had a huge year having played just about every festival possible (Glastonbury, Roskilde, Pukkelpop, Reading etc). They create catchy-as-anything break-neck punky indie pop comparable to bands like The Futureheads and The Rakes.

We’re also super excited that Australia’s best loved party band The Grates will be headlining Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party!! Meanwhile the rest of the Aussie bands consist of some of the hottest acts around, including: Philadelphia Grand Jury, Red Riders, DZ, Chaingang, The Trivs, Young Heretics and Deep Sea Arcade.

And to make sure there’s enough p-a-r-t-y happening on the dancefloors we have three stages featuring local and international DJs and dance acts still to be announced.

Tickets go on sale 9th October!! Limited early bird tickets are only $49+BF and remember last years event SOLD OUT so get in quick!!

You can grab them from http://www.purplesneakersnewyearseve.com or from Moshtix and Oztix.

This year for the very first time we’re also introducing a way for YOU to sell tickets to the Purple Sneakers NYE House Party to all your mates and make some cash! It all happens through a website called Posse at http://www.posse.com and all it takes is a few easy steps for you to become an agent. Head to website, add Purple Sneakers NYE to your store and stick the widget everywhere that you can think of (Facebook, blog, Myspace) and start selling tickets!

Come Meet The Bands & DJs Playing At Purple Sneakers NYE House Party:

The Grates http://www.myspace.com/thegrates

Fronted by Australia’s pop indie princess, Patience, The Grates have become one of Australia favourite indie bands. With tracks consistently on high rotation on triple j every set they play commands crowd sing-alongs. Plus everybody knows that the happiest thing in world is to dance along to Patience’s gorgeous on-stage moves so make sure you’re front and centre on the main stage during The Grates set!

The Boxer Rebellion (UK) http://www.myspace.com/theboxerrebellion

The Boxer Rebellion have been destroying charts as far as the eye can see with the release of their album ‘Union’. After only 72 hours of being released it had shot to #1 on US iTunes Alternative Chart, and on the UK iTunes Alternative Chart in came in at #2 behind Kings Of Leon. They are also the first unsigned band to have a digital only release to enter the US Billboard Charts!! With unstoppable riffs and soaring vocals these London based lads will be sure to set the stage alight!

Ponytail (US) http://www.myspace.com/ponytailtunes
Creating a party of awesomeness from a barrel of chaos is one way to describe Ponytail. With experimental sounds that combine in explosions of random madness, these kids from Baltimore are more fun than a hyperactive clown on fire. Often compared to Deerhoof, if you like your music uber-excitable, filled with unintelligible lyrics and off-the-hook random riffs you are in for an amazing time with Ponytail!

Baddies (UK) http://www.myspace.com/baddies

Don’t get confused when you see Baddies on stage. You’re not seeing double, the band just happens to contain identical twins Michael and Jim Webster. They’ll be bringing their incredibly energetic live act to our shores after they finish destroying ever single city in Europe during their massive headline tour. Dressed to kill with matching ensembles and with a hyper high octane sound they’ll be sure to add some frenzy to the evening.

Philadelphia Grand Jury http://www.myspace.com/philadelphiagrandjury
Having completely taken over the radio waves of 2009, Philadelphia Grand Jury has become a name that even your Nan knows! But the only thing better than hearing The Philly Jays (as they like their friends to call them) on the radio is seeing them live!! As Drum Media declared ‘A band you must see before you die’ so make sure you catch MC Bad Genius and Berkfinger get loose and do some damage to their instruments, the stage equipment and themselves.

Red Riders http://www.myspace.com/redridersmusic
It’s been a big year for the Red Riders; they’ve played at SXSW, lost a guitarist and founding member, gained a new guitarist and released their fantastic sophomore album ‘Drown In Colour’. Jam packed with the inner city sleekness you’ve come to expect from Surry Hill’s favourite sons, a live set from Red Riders blends some softer shoegaze sounds into party prepared post punk.

DZ http://www.myspace.com/dzparty
As some of the finest punk rock noise purveyors in the country it’s easy to see that we’re all a tingle over the seeing this Brisbane duo hit the PS NYE stage. In every review that you will read about these guys there is one word that appears without fail – PARTY! With some massive support slots already under their belts for folk such as Biffy Clyro, Crystle Castles, Bang! Bang! Eche, Cut Off Your Hands, Wolf & Cub these dudes are well versed to bring on a killer live show.

Deep Sea Arcade http://www.myspace.com/deepseaarcade
Psychedelic pop is the produce of choice for Sydney five piece Deep Sea Arcade and the complete earnestness of their live performances is obvious. With a sometimes Beatle-like sound and new single ‘Don’t Be Sorry’ floating around on the airwaves it’s time to get excited about seeing these guys live.

Young Heretics http://www.myspace.com/youngheretics
This Melbourne duo shares a love for creating warped pop music with gorgeous vocal soundscapes and emotionally driven lyrics. With the very recently digital release of their ‘Dreamers’ EP you should expect to be hearing much from this talented duo.

The Trivs http://www.myspace.com/thetrivs
Mixing melodic vocals into a mix of glorious indie sounds, Canberran kids The Trivs are bound for big things. PS NYE being one of them! Look forward to hearing the sounds that have seen them sharing the stage with the likes of Art Vs Science, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Mercy Arms, Calling All Cars and heaps more.

Chaingang http://www.myspace.com/chaingangpower
Chaingang are heading back into the country after recording their debut EP over in Nashville, Tennessee. Wrapped up in a tight little pop rock package, you’ve got a metal drummer, blues guitarist, hardcore bassist and an hypnotic pop singer, which all makes for a catchy-as-fuck sound and tasty live show!

The Grates head out on their biggest and longest adventure tour in May. The tour title is taken from the final track on their acclaimed album, ‘Teeth Lost, Hearts Won’, and this seems apt as it is their last tour for this record.

They certainly have walked a thousand ambitious miles together over the past year, stealing the show clad in their Sunday best at the Big Day Out and every other festival over the summer break!

“Front lady Patience knows how to work the crowd and does so stunningly in her drill sergeant uniform.” DB, February 2009

Now it’s time for The Grates to bring back the sparkle with their own headline shows in capitol cities across the nation before they jump the ocean and set their sights on international shores.

“Completely and utterly stellar.” Time Off, Live Review.

Brewing up storms and fevers in all territories, The Grates have signed a co-management deal with former Nirvana manager Danny Goldberg (Ben Lee, The Hives) and will be turning their attention to the USA. The Grates hit the seminal music conference SxSW in March, as well as playing a few shows in New York and LA before returning to Oz for their final hurrah.

It’s undeniable The Grates’ live show has taken on a life of its own, with Patience donning costumes such as her now infamous Batgirl costume at Splendour In The Grass or the band leader outfit she took the band through their paces with at the Big Day Out. You just never know what’s to come.

“Few images will burn brighter than that of Patience Hodgson of The Grates bursting onto stage as Batgirl, ‘Batman’ theme blazing overhead. Kicking into a blinder of a set that balances the exuberant new album with the crowd-rousing faves as she twists and kicks with glee, rending the show a highlight even before the confetti cannons detonate during 19 20 20, etching joy on the upturned faces.” Inpress, August 2008.

Joining them on this tour will be Children Collide, whose scorching live shows have seen them become the perfect accompaniment to any rock show. Fresh from the Big Day Out and touring with The Living End, Children Collide will now bring it to stage with The Grates. Children Collides’ debut album ‘The Long Now’ saw them hit a critical peak, with the LP featuring strongly in the “Best Of” lists for 2008 including Rolling Stone and The Age.

The Grates will also be hand picking an opening band in each city. Keep checking your local guides for details.
The Grates’, ‘Teeth Lost, Hearts Won Tour Edition’ will be released on April 3rd.

The CD/DVD package includes the album and a DVD featuring 12 songs live at the Sydney Big Day Out, a documentary on the making of the album and the clips for ‘Burn Bridges’ and ‘Aw Yeah’.

Music enthusiasts, FBI supporters and the whole FBI crew came together on Friday 12th September at World Bar to celebrate FBI’s 5th birthday and the end of yet another successful supporter drive. With Aussie musicians including The Grates, Yves Klein Blue, SPOD, Art v’ Science and S.Y.L.K playing to raise money to keep FBI on air, it was no wonder that it was a sell out.

With free beers going to the first 200 people to arrive, there was no wonder that the event was packed out from the word ‘go’ and with $5 vodka redbulls that contributed $3 each to FBI, there was no wonder why the party continued at full throttle into the wee hours. With four floors of entertainment and so many amazing artists it was a constant struggle to determine who to see.

Art v’s Science put a breath of fresh air into the world of club electronic music at the FBI party. With the right tempo for dancing, catchy lyrics that got the whole audience singing along, and a steady beat that hypnotised the crowed, Art V’s Science took the audience’s breath away. The energy in the room was electrifying and the band ensured an outstanding performance as well as strong playing.

S. Y .L.K literally sparkled and shinned as they bedazzled the audience. With their smooth, fast paced and fun raps, their styling, synchronised dance moves and their very 80’s style these ladies pleasured the audience musically as well as visually. Being referred to as “Sydney’s answer to Salt ‘n’ Peper” these three fly girls sure did show the audience how they got this name.

Yves Klein Blue belted out their blend of classic pop, old punk fused with indie rock tracks. Named after a type of paint, watching the band was nothing like watching paint dry. They played a tight and rocking set which got the crowed sweating as they danced up a storm. Yves Klein Blue really got into the birthday celebrations when they lead the crowed in singing happy birthday to FBI and presenting a cake.

SPOD, was totally rad. With back up dances, facemasks of himself, bubbles and streams there was no wonder he drew a crowed. Spod ensured never a dull moment for the audience as he belted out his electroclash, hip hop tunes. With a few sound problems which meant a late start, Spod used this time to psych up more and then when it came time to shine he exploded on stage interacting heavily with the audience and sending hearts racing.

The headliners for the night were The Grates. With their catchy and popular high energy rock/ pop tracks, they had the house shaking and the crowed jumping around. Playing mostly tracks from their new album ‘ Teeth lost, hearts won’ and throwing in some oldies it was no wonder why practically the whole venue turned to The Grates. Leaping and bounding across the stage, Patience ensured that there was not a single body or closed mouth in site. They were loud, they were proud and they really got the crowed pumped.

And like every 5th Birthday, the crowed left sad that the night was over and pumped with sugar, awesome music and sweet memories.
