Want to play at Homebake, Australia’s premier all-local festival? Every musician playing at Surry Hill’s Hopetoun Hotel Homebake/ Emi Incentive program is dieing to. With a spot on the 2008 Homebake line up at stake each musician is playing with all their energy, passion, heart and soul.

Monday August 25 saw the likes of Sui Zhen, Jordy Lane, Songs for Surgery; The Ring Leaders and Captain Nemo hit the stage.

Sui Zhen, a Sydney singer/songwriter, brought an innocence and sweetness to the atmosphere as she performed with her band. With a voice that intrigued the entire audience Sui Zhen played the most beautiful and harmonious melodies on her guitar. Along with her band dreamy soundscapes were created fused with moments of soft rock contrasted with folk- pop. The cute and fun lyrics of each of her tracks made dreamers out of audience members. Between songs Sui Zhen’s banter proved that her music is a beautiful reflection of herself.

Another stand out performance for the night came from Indie- electronica musician Jordy Lane. A cold could not hold Jordy Lane down as he mixed up guitars and synths with electronic beats and noise. With assistance from Kaity Fox on backing vocals and his Mac computer, Jordy took his audience on a somewhat hypnotic musical rollercoaster. With extremely intense peaks in his songs, Jordy left his audience wondering how all that music could come out of the instruments he had. Jordy’s music was dramatic, electrifying and left the audience holding their breath until the very end.
