#1 Dads, Courtney Barnett Lead This Year’s Independent Music Award Nominations

#1 Dads, Courtney Barnett, Hermitude and Vance Joy head up the nominations for the 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards.

The full list of noms has been revealed for the 10th annual event, which is scheduled to take place in Melbourne this October, with the above artists and Chet Faker all contending for the coveted Best Independent Artist gong.

Altogether, Hermitude have snagged four nods, also getting nominated for Best Independent Single/EP (for The Buzz), Best Independent Album and Best Independent Dance/Electronic Album (for Dark Night Sweet Light).

Last year’s Best Independent Artist winner, Courtney Barnett, is again nominated in that category, and has also been shortlisted for Best Independent Album (Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit) and twice for Best Independent Single/EP (for Depreston and Pedestrian At Best).

Fellow troubadour Vance Joy got three nods. As well as Best Independent Artist, he’s also up for Best Independent Single/EP (Fire and the Flood) and Best Independent Album (Dream Your Life Away), while side project of Big Scary frontman Tom Iansek, #1 Dads, is also up for three awards: Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Album (About Face) and Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year.

Duking it out in the Best Hard Rock, Heavy Or Punk Album category are British India, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Smith Street Band, The Peep Tempel, and Northlane for their new LP, Node.

Baro, Briggs, Citizen Kay, One Day and Seth Sentry will battle it out in the Best Hip Hop Album category.

In association with Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), the 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards will take place on Thursday, October 22nd at Meat Market, North Melbourne.
