18 Year-Old Coachella Attendee Killed In Car Accident

An 18-year old woman has died after being involved in a car accident on Friday night close to Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The woman, who was in town to attend Coachella, was hit by a car whilst crossing at an intersection nearby. She was taken to Eisenhower Medical Centre where she died from complications relating to the accident approximately an hour later. She has been identified as Michala Freeland from Highland in California.

The driver was a man from Indio – where the festival is held – and was travelling with an infant child, who was in the back seat of the car. Neither of the two were injured, and police have reported that the man remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Police have also indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the accident, although the investigation is ongoing.

Last year’s event saw a man who had cocktailed drugs and alcohol hit and killed by a train near the festival site, while in 2014 a California woman died from a drug overdose.
