Iconic AC/DC frontman Bon Scott is set to be memorialised with a life-sized statue of his person.
Acca Dacca fans threw their muscle behind a crowdfunding campaign to build the Bon effigy in his Scottish hometown, so far raising just short of the campaign target’s £50,000 (which is still well over $100K Australian).
Even though the beloved frontman, who died of alcohol poisoning in 1980, spent most of his life based in Australia, his heritage can be traced back to the Scottish town of Kirriemuir, near Dundee.
The townsfolk annually celebrate their links to the rock legend by hosting a festival called ‘Bonfest’, and their crowdfunding campaign has been so successful that, as well as bankrolling construction of the Bon statue, the funds raised will also pay for a well-manicured Bon Scott memorial garden to go along with it.
“We have commissioned renowned sculptor John Mckenna to create a life-sized statue of Bon that will capture his personality, his stage presence and his Scottish roots,” the campaign page states.
“When completed, the statue will be placed in its own memorial garden, on Bellies Brae in the middle of Kirriemuir.”
There are still 12 days left for fans to chuck their support behind the effort, via the official crowdfunding site.
The fully-constructed statue is expected to be unveiled in April of 2016 during Bonfest. We’re assuming it won’t be dressed in Bon Scott’s infamous schoolgirl drag from his AC/DC TV debut on Countdown.
But then again, that would be awesome.
Meanwhile, the Brian Johnson-fronted AC/DC are bringing their Rock Or Bust tour to Australia this December.
