Adele Says Her Album Of The Year Grammy Should’ve Gone To Beyoncé

Adele took out the top honour at the Grammy Awards winning Album Of The Year for 25 but she couldn’t accept it.

“I can’t possibly accept this award,” she said, clutching the award in her hand.

“My artist of my life is Beyoncé and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental. So monumental. And so well thought out and so beautiful and soul-bearing and we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see and we appreciate that and all us artists here adore you. You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way that you make my black friends feel is empowering and you make them stand up for themselves.”

Beyoncé was in the first row of the crowd, visibly emotional as Adele dedicated the award to her.

Adele then snapped the Grammy in half so that she could give Bey the other half.

This is the second time Adele has taken home the Album Of The Year gong. She previously won in 2012 for ’21’. Beyoncé has never won the award before.

It was the fifth win of the night for Adele who also took home Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year. Beyoncé, on the other hand, won two awards for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Video.

Both of them performed at the show with Bey doing ‘Love Drought’ and ‘Sandcastles’ from Lemonade and Adele singing ‘Hello’ and covering George Michael’s ‘Fastlove’. In the latter performance, Adele had to start again because she messed up the first time.
