African Guitarist Vieux Farka Touré Australian tour dates 2010

This January sees the first time visit to Australian shores for African guitarist/singer/songwriter, Vieux Farka Touré who is set to perform intimate club shows in both Brisbane and Melbourne, and will also be performing as part of the calender of events at the Sydney Festival.

Mixing reggae, funk, and R&B, Vieux Farka Touré, Vieux breaks new ground as one of the first world music artists to embrace the sounds of rock. The son of African music legend, the late Ali Farka Touré, he draws on West African Malian traditions, and incorporates his father’s signature desert style blues to create his own unique style and sound.

Vieux Farka Touré quickly stepped into his own spotlight after the release of his self-titled debut album in 2006. The critically acclaimed album showcased his guitar playing virtuosity, with its bluesy rhythms, souring sounds and intricate guitar solos. Since the release of that self-titled debut album, Vieux has taken his natural mastery of the stage and infectious, unique brand of “koroboro (black African, in his native dialect) rock” to adoring crowds worldwide.

Vieux Farka Touré brings those unique sounds to Australia for the first time this coming January on the back of the release of his sophomore album “Fondo”.

From arrangements of traditional songs, to loping desert rhythms blended beautifully with the sounds of Delta blues, this highly anticipated second album (Vieux’s newest effort and his first one with the Six Degrees label), is more than a stirring mix of traditional instruments and modern production. This is music from a contemporary Africa – urban, sophisticated, globally connected but deeply proud of its ancient heritage.
