Angus Stone Collaborates With Kelly Slater At La Casa Artist Residency

To celebrate Kelly Slater‘s recent win in the Volcom Fiji Pro at Cloudbreak, La Casa has posted a tune written and performed by the world’s number 1 surfer called So Long Ago, which was recorded alongside Australia’s own Angus Stone. You can also see how the track came together in the video below.

So Long Ago was actually written and recorded this time last year for the soundtrack to surfing doco Here And Now, a film shot simultaneously across the globe which documents the world of surfing in a single 24-hour period.

The track is exactly the kind of quality we’ve come to expect from Stone; a solid, laid-back beach jam with a campfire singalong hook that might just tingle in your brain for days. Slater’s lyrics and guitar work accentuate the highly chilled vibe, bolstering a musical pedigree that also includes live collaborations with Pearl Jam and Ben Harper.

Over the last few months, Corona’s increasingly popular La Casa Artist Residency, situated in Byron Bay, has seen a variety of artists pass beneath its beach house decks. Temper Trap are currently holed up there, working on their highly anticipated third record with Frank Ocean producer Malay.

The coastal hideaway is also no stranger to musical crossovers with the surfing world, with their first annual Partywave Invitational attracting the likes of Donavon Frankenreiter and Ash Grunwald alongside pro surfer Garrett Parkes.

Check out the tune below and marvel at Slater’s surfing and musical prowess in the accompanying video.
