Arctic Monkeys Make History With New Number One Album ‘AM’

UK indie darlings Arctic Monkeys have plenty to be happy about with their fifth studio album, AM released last week and now news that the album has entered the album charts at number one following strong first week sales. The Arctics now enter the history books as the first indie band to have five consecutive number one albums.

AM, which so far has produced the singles R U Mine?, Do I Wanna Know?, and Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? is currently the second-best selling album of the year, sitting behind Daft Punk‘s Random Access Memories. According to the Official Charts Company, the album shifted over 157,000 units in its first week of sales.

Released on Domino Records, the success of AM means the Arctics are now the first independent band to have five back-to-back number one albums, beginning with their 2006 debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, now considered a modern classic.

The band have hinted at touring Down Under some time in 2014.
