Ash To Play ‘1977’ In Full During Australian Tour This August

Written by Mike Hohnen on June 20, 2013

Seminal Irish punk-pop trio Ash have announced their triumphant return to Australian shores for a tour in August 2013. Unlike tours past, the band have something very special in mind for their Aussie fans – this time round, the band will be performing their generation defining album 1977 from start to finish.

This is the first time Aussie fans will be able to experience 1977 from start to finish. Back in 2008, the band announced a similar tour in London, selling out their show at London’s Roundhouse in record time, leaving no option to announce a second performance at the iconic Astoria.

Though it was released in 1996, it’s obvious the album is still resonating after all these years. The record soundtracked the reckless, wild and, by many accounts, best years of a generation. Furthermore, 1977 marks not just the year all the band members were born, but the year Star Wars hit cinemas. Need we say more?

Given the fact that the band remained popular well after the success of the record, they’re making sure all fans are catered for with a B-sides session as well as playing their greatest hits.

Tickets available Wednesday, 26th June via http://www.metropolistouring.com and from venues.

UPDATE 12/07/13: Due to overwhelming demand, Ash have added new dates to their Australian tour. Tickets to the Melbourne show sold out in 10 days, so if you missed out, never fear – the trio have just announced a second gig at The Corner, although we’d get on that quick smart as promoters have advised that there won’t be another. We also have good news for Perth and Adelaide Ash fans, with shows at The Rosemount and The Gov being added to the tour. This marks the band’s first trip to those cities since 2001.

Tickets for all shows are on sale now.
