At The Drive-In Won’t Be Making A New Album

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has squashed any talk of a new At The Drive-In album after the band recently reunited to appear at Benicassim and on the Coachella 2012 line-ups.

The guitarist spoke to Kerrang! recently, and was asked about rumours the group might take it a step further and record some new material.

“Will there be a new album? No, no, no. At The Drive-In is more of a nostalgia thing – it’s songs we wrote when we were all in our 20s and we’re doing a couple of shows. It’s an old T-shirt that doesn’t fit me any more, but when you put it on again, it feels nice. It’s as simple as that.”

He also recently said he sees the reunion tour as a way to right his wrongs with his bandmates and to put it all behind them.

Speaking with BBC Omar said it was The Mars Volta/At The Drive In frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala who convinced him to go ahead with the At The Drive In reunion:

He Said [Cedric], I know The Mars Volta is your baby and it’s always been your vision but lighten up, it’s 11 years later and it could be fun’. And I’m glad he did that…It’s a way to right my wrongs. When I split up the band I was very young and self-centered.

The Mars Volta released the full version of their new song named The Malkin Jewel. The track will appear on the band’s upcoming new album Noctourniquet, which is due out on the 27th March, you can check it out here.
