Aterciopelados Announce First Australian Tour

For the first time ever, Colombian music icons Aterciopelados bring their Grammy Award winning Latin indie-rock to Australia. Led by songwriters Andrea Echeverri (vocals) and Hector Buitrago (bass), Atercios’ annex and combine styles with a healthy disregard for musical boundaries: new wave, lounge, reggae, bossa nova, electro, hard rock, bolero, Mexican banda, house, rumba-rock and straightforward pop anthems, not to mention surf-rock guitar lines. Accompanied by some of the best musicians in Colombia, the pair is renowned for creating magic onstage.

Lead singer Andrea Echeverri is a high profile Amnesty International ambassador, outspoken on human rights issues in Colombia and across the globe. Her passionate songs and actions have branded her a “Latin Janis Joplin” in the tradition of socially conscious singer-songwriters. The band donated their single “Cancion Protesta” to Amnesty USA which commissioned it’s transformation into a new bi-lingual hit “The Price of Silence”, featuring a host of international world music stars. Please see below for a link to this music video.

  1. It is awesome to get a chance to listen to an indie rock band that is so revered all over the Americas. It has been listed as one of the ten most influential bands in the world… not that we would ever get to know judging by the content of our music magazines… it is all so Anglo….I was looking at Triple J Top 100 and the list, the only too non white were Jimmy Hendrix and Michael Jackson (well, this one does not qualify as a black man).
Let’s support this visit. I am sure the guys behind the tour will think twice before bringing similar bands if it does not work oyut this time.
