Auckland City Limits 2016 First Lineup Announced

Auckland City Limits, the Kiwi spinoff of iconic Texan musical extravaganza Auckland City Limits, has unveiled its inaugural lineup and it’s basically a mini-Bluesfest.

Aussie punters not willing to commit to the monster 5-day Byron Bay bonanza may well consider hopping a plane to NZ for the debut instalment of Aukland City Limits, with Bluesfest 2016 headliners Kendrick Lamar and The National topping the bill.

Another 14 acts have also been announced for ACL’s coming out party, with more hip-hop in the form of New York rapper Action Bronson, more indie rock courtesy of Californian outfit Cold War Kids and a side of electro-pop with homegrown heroes The Naked And The Famous.

Much of the Auckland festival’s bill also reflects the Americana, contemporary country and roots-based stylings of its Austin progenitor, with US country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson, blues-rock singer Grace Potter, indie-Americana bands Houndmouth and Lord Huron, Austin singer-songer Shakey Graves as well as Alabama soul revivalists St Paul & the Broken Bones also hitting the stage.

Aukland City Limits, which also happens to be the brainchild of Big Day Out co-owners C3 Presents and Live Nation Entertainment, is due to hit Western Springs Stadium on Saturday March 19th.

Tickets go on sale from Wednesday, 4th November from 9am, with a second announcement of acts expected soon.
