Australia’s 5 Seconds Of Summer Declared ‘Worst Band’ By NME, Again

Aussie ‘not-a-boy-band’ 5 Seconds Of Summer (abbreviated as 5SOS) have outdone themselves by winning the ‘Worst Band’ title for the second time in a row at this year’s NME Awards, which were held on Wednesday night.

The young band impressively beat strong competition from One Direction, U2 and Nickelback, among others.

Band member Ashton Irwin took to Twitter with (mock?) pride, saying, “NME worst band 2 years running, we are unstoppable at being the worst.”

5SOS rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on their ‘Take Me Home’ Tour. The group started out as Youtube celebrities, playing covers for adoring fans.

Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Wolf Alice and The Libertines came out on top at the 2016 NME Awards, with live performances from Foals, Bring Me The Horizon, The Maccabees and Rat Boy. Bring Me The Horizon even amped things up to another level, trashing Coldplay’s table during their high energy performance.

Still, we’re just happy to bring home the best award of all.
