Avenged Sevenfold Check In From The Studio, Preview New Material

The great Avenged Sevenfold have officially entered the studio to get cracking on the long-awaited follow up to 2010’s Nightmare. Over the weekend the band posted a brief in-studio clip as well as a preview of a brand-new track. But this isn’t just any studio update – you’re going to have to work for it.

So far, the only way to check out the band’s new wares is via their cryptic and, let’s face it, sort of creepy TV/radio puzzle doovalacky. You’ll notice an array of nobs and buttons to meddle with but you’ll have to get the right frequency for anything of any major significance to happen. You’re sure to have some fun/rip your hair out trying, as some options will let you listen to classics released by the band over the years, while other combinations will leave you with nothing but static.

The new updates provide a couple of titbits which perhaps only die-hard fans will get a kick out of. Firstly, the radio depicts the name “Tholomew” which is the middle name of the band’s dearly departed drummer The Reverend Tholomew Plague (real name Jimmy Sullivan, the founding member of Avenged was found unresponsive in 2009 having succumbed to an overdose of pain medication).

The second little nugget is the addition of touring drummer and former Confide drummer Arin Ilejay. Ilejay picked up where Dream Theatre sticksman Mike Portnoy left off in 2011. It was unknown whether the addition would be permanent but, given that he’s made his way onto the album, it most probably is.

The band have also recently announced a run of UK shows, so it all appears to be happening. Stay tuned, as there’s likely to be some new material when they head out on the road.
