Azealia Banks Doesn’t Want To Be A Rapper Any More, Deletes Twitter Account

Written by Kiel Egging on June 9, 2012

Splendour in the Grass-bound Azealia Banks has taken to her Tumblr page to announce she no longer wants to be called a rapper. Following her sold-out show in New York, Banks made a statement saying she wants to be referred to as a vocalist – and that she’s also deleting her Twitter account.

She posted the following statement, which has appeared on Complex:

“i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bullshit urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the fuck that means… no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting.”

The news follows hot on the heels of Banks recently ending her management deal with Troy Carter – who also looks after Lady Gaga.
