The 2017 National Indigenous Music Awards came to Darwin tonight, celebrating an incredible year for Indigenous musicians Australia-wide.
Troy Cassar-Daley took home the biggest gong of the night, winning Artist of the Year, but also took out Album of the Year for his record Things I Carry Around.
A.B. Original‘s Briggs and Trials also won multiple awards, as they took out Song of the Year and Film Clip of the Year for their Dan Sultan feature ‘January 26’.
The duo were joined by Sultan and Paul Kelly for a performance of ‘Dumb Things’, while the night also saw performances by triple j Unearthed winner Baker Boy and a moving tribute to the late Dr G. Yunipingu, the most awarded artist in the history of the National Indigenous Music Awards.
In other awards, Electric Fields took out the New Talent of the Year gong, and Halls Creed Indigenous Hip Hop Project nabbed the award for Community Music Clip of the Year.
