Ben Folds Five Back Together For First Album In 13 years

The original Ben Folds Five line-up will reunite to record a new album for the first time in over a decade. This will be their first album since 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner.

Yesterday frontman Ben Folds tweeted a photo him, Sledge and Jessee with a comment: “It’s happening fo sho – Day 1 in studio with Robert and Darren through March #NewBenFoldsFiveRecord.” addeding: “Spring release.”

In an interview late last year Folds hinted at the band’s reunion, saying:

“We did three things that we could do quickly for the record, and there were all these other ideas that I was bringing in that were really more radical. So I think in December we’ll probably get together to do that as long as I have enough material when I come back in.”

In 2008, they reformed for what was a one-off gig where they played The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner in full to raise money for the Operation Smile charity. The band is made up of a trio (despite the band name), with Ben Folds on vocals and piano, Robert Sledge on bass guitar and Darren Jessee on drums.
