Big Day Out 2013 Melbourne – Set Times, Maps & Transport Info

As the Big Day Out 2013 rolls along, Melbourne fans are preparing to celebrate Australia Day at Flemington Racecourse with the likes of Delta Spirit, Sleigh Bells, The Killers and, of course, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Obviously, before you can have fun at the BDO, you need to get there. Fortunately for you, Music Feeds has gone to the extreme effort of copying and pasting into one location all the relevant transport information you’ll need to make your way to the Big Day Out in Melbourne.

When you get there, don’t forget to get you grub on at Chow Town, you won’t regret it!*

Transport Information

Melbourne Big Day Out is located on the gorgeous green surrounds of Flemington Racecourse, home of the world famous Melbourne Cup.

This is our 6th year at this beautiful site which is located so close to the CBD you can see the city skyline.

Transport couldn’t be easier as our Melbourne site has it’s own train station into the venue and a tram stop at the door. Tickets available online and through selected retail outlets.

Getting to and from the Big Day Out on Saturday 26 January

Public transport is the best way to get to Flemington Racecourse with hundreds of extra trains and trams running to get you and your mates there and back home again easily and safely.

Metropolitan Trains

Trains will run frequently between Flinders Street Station and Flemington Racecourse, stopping at Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations before running express to the racecourse.

To Flemington

Trains will depart Flinders Street every:

7 – 8 minutes between 9.35am and 12pm

10 minutes between 12pm and 1.58pm

20 minutes between 1.58pm and 7.49pm

From Flemington

Trains will depart Flemington every:

7 – 8 minutes between 12.15pm and 3.15pm

20 minutes between 3.35pm and 8.09pm

10 minutes between 8.09pm and 9.03pm

7 – 8 minutes between 9.03pm and 9.47pm

4 – 5 minutes between 10.03pm and 11.42pm

If you are travelling by train on the Craigieburn line, get off at Newmarket Station and either walk or catch a Route 57 tram along Racecourse Road to the racecourse.

Metropolitan Trams

Trams displaying Route 57a will run frequently between Stop 1 in Elizabeth Street and Stop 29, a short walk from the racecourse entrance.

Route 57a trams will start running from Elizabeth Street at 9am and the last tram will leave Stop 29 at approximately midnight.

You also catch normal Route 57 trams between the city and the racecourse.

Planning your journey

You are encouraged to allow a bit of extra time for your trip and plan ahead by using the journey planner before you leave home.

With journey planner, simply enter your origin address, set your destination as a ‘landmark’ and enter ‘Flemington Racecourse’ for step-by-step directions on public transport.

Make sure you top up your myki in advance to get the weekend rate of $3.50 for all day travel in Zones 1 and 2 on a Saturday or Sunday.

You can buy and top up your myki at close to 800 retailers including all 7-Eleven stores, at Premium Stations and at major tram and bus interchanges.

Make sure to keep yourself hydrated and carry a water bottle with you while travelling on public transport.
