Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has said he is not surprised Lana Del Rey “crashed and burned”. Speaking in a one-on-one chat with Brian Solis at SXSW, Corgan said:
It doesn’t surprise me that she [Lana Del Rey] crashed and burned, because she wasn’t ready for it, I didn’t think it was that bad.
Corgan also spoke about modern break-through artists wanting to be famous with no goal to actually produce quality art:
Artists that break through now have grown up thinking that being famous is the goal. Not to be respected – not to be dangerous. [once you make that deal] you’re just the fresh stripper.
He also called the new generation of musicians ‘poseurs’:
I was part of a generation that changed the world – and it was taken over by poseurs.
