Blackchords Release New Single ‘Sleepwalker’, Launch Online Remix Competition

Melbourne’s indie dance rock outfit Blackchords have release yet another single from their recently released LP A Thin Line, in the gloomy but driven form of Sleepwalker as well as launching an online remix competition for the aspiring producers out there.

The esteemed Mitch Kenny from Studio’s 301 in Sydney mixed Sleepwalker for radio via Record Plant in Los Angeles (Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, Beyonce, Drapht, Hermitude & Paul Kelly, Owl Eyes, Missy Higgins). The track is a crisp power pop ballad, intertwining aspects of indie’s introspection and pop anthem production.

The band’s own Nick Milwright had this to say about the inspiration behind the single:

“Sleepwalker reflects the tensions of a city street during the small hours of a Saturday morning pre-dawn and sits in your mind like a rooms’ walls moving from artificial light into morning. The song came to light after a long week of work…. Working for money, working to get by, work that numbs the senses. I came to find myself sitting in an old pub, drinking a pint alone. Trying to unwind. This place was littered with television screens and racing results. Drunk men numbing themselves just that little bit more. I started getting glimpses of this song whilst sitting there. In my mind, the world that I was inhabiting, we are all asleep.”

The band have also launched an online remix competition for the single allowing entrants to get a hold of the stems for the track and get creative. For more information on the competition head on over to Blackchords’ Facebook page.
