Brandy Plays To 40 People In 90,000 Capacity Venue

American R&B star Brandy has stormed off stage in Johannesburg, South Africa last Saturday after only 40 people turned up to see her perform in a stadium with a capacity of 90,000, leaving in embarrassment after playing only two songs.

The Have You Ever? singer was scheduled as a special surprise guest at the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day, but most people had left the FNB stadium in Soweto by time she took to the stage. The 34-year-old songstress may not have had a hit for a while, but apparently the poor turnout wasn’t about a lack of popularity, but rather that the audience had no idea she was even set to perform.

South African musician Kabomo confirmed the embarrassing situation, tweeting:

“Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off… People didn’t know there was a concert after the games. No-one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience.”

Tens of thousands of punters had been at the event for the sporting part of the festivities earlier in the day to witness football and rugby games but people began to leave by the time the live music started. Even the TV networks didn’t bother with Brandy, with station SABC ending their coverage before she began her set.

Poor Moesha – it’s hard when you’re used to being on Top Of The World, eh?
