Chairlift & The Phenomenal Handclap Band Join Forces in Sydney, Melbourne

New York’s purveyors of tongue in cheek synth-pop, Chairlift, announce a co-headline tour with fellow Brooklyn-ites The Phenomenal Handclap Band. Catch both acts in a huge double headline bill on Saturday 2 January at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, and Thursday 7 January at the Manning Bar in Sydney.

Chairlift rose to prominence when their sweet tune ‘Bruises’ was featured in an iPod Nano television commercial and began receiving airplay on triple j. Few could resist the distinctively breezy vocals of Caroline Polachek as she sang “I tried to do handstands for you, I tried to do headstands for you. Everytime I fell on you, yeah, everytime I fell.”

Similarly, The Phenomenal Handclap Band has also been enjoying success with their dance floor filler ’15 To 20’ (featuring Lady Tigra) receiving plenty of radio airplay, and providing the soundtrack for a Bonds television commercial.

With both bands confirmed to appear at a number of festivals over summer, Chairlift will play Wednesday 30 December at the Falls Festival in Lorne (VIC), Thursday 31 December at the Falls Festival in Marion Bay (TAS) and Saturday 9 January at the Southbound Festival in Perth (WA).

Forming in 2007, Chairlift began their career playing shows with a thriving society of experimental pop magicians including MGMT and Yeasayer. With NME dubbing their first single ‘Evident Utensil’ “a charming pop oddity,” it wasn’t long before the band were being thrown into the spotlight on international sites such as Perez Hilton.

With the release of their debut album, Does You Inspire You, Chairlift’s profile is set to rise even further with their first visit to Australia. Catch them as they play two double headline shows with The Phenomenal Handclap Band.
